To begin I want to ask you a question that I want you to think about throughout this whole post. Can fantasy mean more than just Magic Swords, evil demons, drunken dwarfs, and beautiful elves? For in a story that I was able to reread this week that haven't seen since middle school. The Most Dangerous Game deals has fantasy in it even though it does not have anything to do with Dragons or Swords. But what it does have though is the belief that their is only two kinds of categories of creatures. The ones Being the Hunted and the ones being the Hunters. It is odd to wrap around that this qualifies as fantasy because it does not have to do anything with Dragons. But I think the true definition of Fantasy is rewriting reality into your own hands. I think that is what Fantasy is truly about. Holding the power of reality and changing it in your own way. For all the story deals with is a man outwitting a mastermind of a hunter in a scheme to leave the island. For in the end, he does.
While the other thing I've learned is what Literature truly means. All this genre really emphasizes is the deep thinking in the end. I know it maybe odd to bring it up this many weeks later but it makes sense. No wonder American Gods was allowed and much more.
These are the two things I have learned this week. Fantasy deals with manipulating reality to fit your story and Literature deals with deep thinking.
