To begin, an article called "Tragedy and the Common Man" written by Arthur Miller. The same individual who wrote the Crucible for instance. Focuses on Tragedy through the lens of the Common Man. He states in his opening that "in this day and age, few tragedies are written." He gives an explanation which is plausible for this question. He goes into depth that the common man views tragedy as a high king would have long ago. That we are drawn into it IF the character is ready to die for a cause or reason. For their is truth in these words that Miller explains throughout the article. For he states on page two line nineteen that the Common Man knows this fear best. For this is what the article of "Tragedy and the Common Man" is all about.
This article confirms an idea of what Tragedy is for this lesson. That Tragedy is evident when the character is ready to lay his or her life for a cause. For the best example I could think of would be a movie called Excalibur that told the tale of King Arthur and the round table. For it truly told a tale about a king who was willing to lay down his life for Excalibur and the lady of the Lake. But this text also challenged myself in terms of talking about the common man aspect of tragedy. I did not think of the topic of the common man with tragedy. Maybe because we all are raised to think of the grand epic tales of the story. So in the process of learning about this, it did indeed changed my views of tragedy by the fact of redefining tragedy. For we are a society that are compelled to a story when the character is ready to lay down his or life for what he or she believes in. So yes, this text not only help myself learn but it also changed my view on certain aspects of tragedy worth noting in this blog.
